Nino Rota - The Essentials (2026)

Giovanni Rota Rinaldi, better known as Nino Rota (1911 - 1979), was an Italian composer, pianist and arranger mostly renowned for his long-lasting sodalitium with Federico Fellini.

Rota’s scores for Fellini’s milestones such as “La Dolce Vita”, “8 ½”, Oscar-winning “Amarcord”, “I Clowns”, “Giulietta degli Spiriti” and “Il Casanova”, just to name a few, feature some of the most recognisable and loved themes in the history of cinema and a symbol of Italian culture in the world. The classical training of Nino Rota, as well as his interest in dodecaphonic music, characterise his soundtracks: highly refined yet simple, bittersweet melodies constantly on the edge between melancholia and timid joy. His scores have the unparalleled gift of evoking long-lost yet familiar atmospheres, places and feelings. Nino Rota is also celebrated for his outstanding work with director Luchino Visconti, on masterpieces like “Il Gattopardo” and “Rocco e i Suoi Fratelli”. Rota is one of the artists featured in CAM Sugar’s Heritage collection, a series of releases celebrating the legacy of the scores that made the history of Italian film music.
