Roberta Alexander - soprano
Edo de Waart - Conductor
The Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra
Samuel Barber was one of the few composers - at least since Renaissance times - to have trained also as a singer. And this is reflected in the preponderance in his output of vocal music, ranging from songs with piano to two full-length operas. Roberta Alexander's outstanding CD of vocal music by Samuel Barber demonstrates the soprano's understanding of the composer's musical language and emotional content … The Netherlands Radio Philharmonic plays very well under the tasteful leadership of Edo de Waart.
