A tutorial on painting a woodland stream in oil paint, using an impressionistic style. Follow along for gentle guidance on materials, composition and technique.
We begin this painting in an almost watercolor style, using loose, gestural passages of transparent colors and a paper towel to reveal interesting textures and color harmonies. We will develop the painting with the application of opaque pigment and meaningful mark making, being mindful of edge control, value and color temperature.
You will learn
Why to paint like watercolors when blocking in your painting;
What materials you absolutely need and which materials you can save money on!
What is color temperature and how it makes an impressionist painting more believable.
What are color values and how to compress them.
Brushwork which illustrates your artistic voice,
Creating convincing textures without "Overworking" your painting!
